FERRY SECURITY (FOR RELEASE)

SEATTLE (July 8, 2005) Two 25-foot response boats from Coast Guard Station Seattle usher a pleasure craft to a safe distance while enforcing a security zone around a Washington State ferry in Elliot Bay today. Vessels are required to maintain a distance of 100 yards form state ferries, and must operate at minimum speed within 500 yards. Vessels passing within 100 yards must contact the ferry or the Coast Guard escort vessel on VHF Channel 16 to safely navigate in the security zone. Violations of thesecurity zone area federal offense, punishable by up to 6-years in prison and/or up to a $250,000 in fines. Official U.S. Coast Guard photo by PA3 Jeff Pollinger.
